Interactive Television Competition Companion
The So You Think You Can Dance companion app brought an interactive second-screen experience to iPhone and iPad viewers during the show’s ninth season, adding a new way to engage with the televised dance competition.
Using audio recognition through the mobile device’s microphone, the app synchronized with the television broadcast and identified the viewer’s position within the episode. This allowed the application to deliver interactive experiences and relevant content at specific moments as the program unfolded.
By connecting the broadcast to a synchronized mobile experience, the project showed how second-screen technology could make television viewing more engaging without interrupting the performances on the main screen.
Technology: Broadcast audio recognition, episode timeline synchronization, timed mobile content, second-screen interaction, and mobile application development.
